To all FONT members,

NATIONAL TRUST AGM : The Guildhall, Portsmouth

Saturday 15 November 2003

Over the next few weeks the National Trust will be sending out the voting papers for this year's AGM.  If you do not receive them by the beginning of October then please telephone the NT on 0870 458 4000 and ask for them.  It is important that you use your vote.

Agenda Item 4 - The Governance Review: Mark X in the "vote for" box.

Agenda Item 5 - Elections to Council : Mark box A with an X.  There are 10 vacancies and 15 candidates - you can only vote for a maximum of 10 people.

FONT advises you to vote for:

If you want to vote for 5 more we are advised that you can also support:

Agenda Item 6 - Annual Report and Accounts : Our advice is to vote for this resolution.

Agenda Item 7 - Appointment of Auditors :Our advice is to vote for this resolution.

Agenda Item 8 - Members' Resolution on geneticall modified crops: This resolution is reasonable and well argued and the Trust is sympathetic to it. We intend to support it.

Agenda Item 9 - Members' Resolution the Trust's plans to develop: It would appear that the Trust plans to develop this land in a way contrary to the donor's wishes and that of the District Council, but the information is scant. Our inclination is to support this resolution but we shall listen to the debate before casting our votes.

On the second page of the voting papers :

Section 1 : put your full name in capitals with your membership number underneath.

Section 2 & 3: your proxy : If you are unable to attend the AGM you will need to appoint a proxy who will be attending the meeting.  If you would like to appoint Charles Douglas Collins, his membership number is 014 007 490. (This is an old number and does not have two further digits on the end.) The form must be with the Electoral Reform Society by Friday 7th November.

Section 4 : please sign.

Section 5 : if there is more than one of you eligible to vote please sign and put your name in capitals underneath.

Attending the AGM

This year there will be an opportunity for members to make representations to Lord Blakenham (Chairman of the Governance Review Group). Those of you who are concerned about the accountability of the Trust should make the most of this opportunity!
