What
Exmoor Says .....................
- We are not prepared
to sacrifice centuries of hard work and loving care to
the opinions of an ignorant urban government and a
pressure group, funded by foreigners, who have never been
near Exmoor or got their hands dirty on the land.
Kevin Lamacraft, Owner Livery Yard
- Lawmakers who have no
sympathy with rural life govern us. Worse, our MPs have
ignored the findings of Lord Burn's Inquiry because these
don't conform to their own prejudices. Our farms are
closing down, fuel prices continue to rise, improved
rural services are pipe dreams. Is it suprising that the
cheerfulness and resilience of Exmoor people is almost
exhausted?
Pat Bawden, Secretary, Endangered Exmoor
- If the farmers go
under the landscape we love will deteriorate, many good
conservation projects will fail, and the social coheision
of our villages will be undermined.
Rev'd Robin Ray, Rector of Exmoor
- Exmoor cannot afford
to lose hunting, shooting and fishing. If hunting goes
property prices will fall to no one's advantage. Sporting
visitors will not come and those who replace them are
unlikely to stimulate employment. With no work our young
people will drift away and the communities will lose
heart and slowly disintegrate.
James Green, Partner, Stags' Estate Agents
- All of us must stick
together to preserve jobs, much needed income, and most
importantly, our way of life! We are the people that live
and work on Exmoor.
Brian Mitchell, Head Keeper, Castle Hill
Shoot
- We do not want to
live in a society where different ways which serve the
community well but which the majority neither share nor
understand are crushed and destroyed by the law.
Baroness Mallalieu, Exmoor Resident,
President of the Countryside Alliance
